Resurrection Eggs for A Meaningful Easter Egg Hunt

Part of our being intentional in imparting our family’s values and beliefs to our daughter is looking for hands-on activities to make occasions and celebrations more meaningful and real. We have Jesse Tree for Christmas, our annual homeschool group’s All Saints’ Party, and lots of read-alouds about feasts and saints. For the past two years, we’ve been using A Sense of the Resurrection, which my arts-and-crafts-loving daughter really enjoys.

Last year, we added another fun activity to our repertoire – the Resurrection Eggs. Early Easter morning, I hid 12 eggs around the house, each with a symbol inside following Jesus’ journey during Holy Week.

After the Energizer Bunny found all the eggs, we put them back in the tray and arranged it by number (Yes, I just had to sneak in a little Math in this activity). As she opened each of the Resurrection Eggs, we talked about why she thinks that object is part of the Easter story. A Bible story or verse is read to check if her guess is correct. The story ends with an empty egg, symbolizing the empty tomb that we celebrate during Easter. Beautiful!

It was so easy to put together and yet it made the usual Easter egg-hunt tradition of the family a whole lot more meaningful. I got the instructions with the printable here and all I really needed to purchase were the plastic eggs. The rest I found around the house.

 

I can’t wait to use our Resurrection Eggs again this year! We will be using it along side a new activity throughout Lent – but that’s for another post.
