From Manila With Love: Not Just for Balikbayans

From Manila with LoveUsing Five in a Row and wonderful children’s books have been a blessing in our home. We read about wonderful places. We reinforce the values that we teach using the stories that we read. We are exposed to beautiful language. We learn to appreciate art through the exquisite illustrations that we see.

The one caveat, however, is that most of these books are published abroad. Rare do we find gems in local bookstores that speak about our beautiful country and people. There ARE gems, though. We just have to discover them.

One such treasure is Tahanan Books’ new baby, From Manila With Love.

It tells the story of a young balikbayan girl who is visiting Manila for the first time. Amy Luna Capelle and Auri Asuncion Yambao, the author and illustrator, respectively, capture this experience accurately. While it is subtitled “A Balikbayan Story”, every Filipino child can relate and learn a lot from this book.

Nostalgic and positive, this book is a must-read if we want our children to know and love our heritage, culture, and country.

The book is available in the shop. We also uncovered the hidden gems in the book for you in a unit study that you can download here to help you in inculcating Filipino culture in your children. Check out, too, the other free unit studies that we’ve made on other Philippine children’s books here.

How do you make your children love our country?
