engineering for kids

Together with Engineering for Kids (EFK), The Parenting Emporium, and Big Strides Center for Developmental Services, we at The Learning Basket are excited to invite you to send your kids to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) classes by Engineering for Kids.

Dori Roberts, CEO and Founder of EFK, says that all kids are natural engineers. We just need to give them the right opportunities to unlock their “inherent interest in how things work while developing problem solving and math skills that last a lifetime.”

The Curriculum

Engineering for Kids in the Philippines is run by The Smile Group, an institution specializing in holistic supplemental activities for kids. Each of their curriculum units are designed to meet U.S. national standards in STEM education.

There are nine programs, which will be highlighted every month, that are sure to excite young kids.

1. Chemical Engineering

Kids are introduced to fundamental concepts of soilds, liquids, gases and mixtures as they investigate the properties of several crazy concoctions. They get to make their own samples of bubbles, play dough, bouncy balls and more while learning chemical engineering concepts.

2. Electronic Game Design

In this program, students create their own video game from start to finish. At the end of the class, they take home a copy of the game they create.

3. Civil Engineering

Introduce your youngest engineers to fundamental concepts of building and construction through open and focused exploration of skyscrapers, bridges and a home.

4. Robotics

Using LEGO Robots, students build various things and learn how to program and operate their creations using a computer.

5. Environmental Engineering

Students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and refine basic solutions related to alternative energy and environmental issues. During the culminating project, students test different materials to discover which ones most effectively clean up after an oil spill.

6. Aerospace Engineering

Kids will love designing, creating, and testing a variety of flying machines as they make their own rockets and assemble a hot air balloon model.

7. Electrical Engineering

Little kids will get a leg up on basic electronics and circuits as they experiment with Snap Circuits to discover the capabilities of major electronic components. They get to build their own flashlights and explore the world of magnetic energy.

8. Marine Engineering

Students get to experiment in EFK’s Aquatic Track as they design and create several types of marine vehicles. They will have the chance to build an underwater robot to learn about basic properties of ship and submarine design.

9. Industrial Engineering

Kids are sure to find this program exciting as they are introduced to fundamental concepts of simple machinery, cooperative building, and the assembly process.
