EFK at TPE

Last year, we partnered with our friends from The Parenting Emporium (TPE) and SMILE Group to hold Engineering for Kids Classes for homeschoolers ages three to 14.

Our kids looked forward to the weekly science classes with their friends! I think I can say the same for the moms as it became a venue for us to reconnect with other families, unwind, and shop in TPE’s awesome store.

This year, we decided to shake things up a bit and offer two different classes that will target children of various ages!

EFK2017

Yogalphabets

Yogalphabets is a program meant for the 1.6 to three year-old active learners. It introduces the letters of the alphabet through stories, yoga poses, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM)-based explorations and investigations.

All the activities in each session – from the warm-up game or exercise to the yoga pose and investigative or explorative activity – are integrated and related to the story or the alphabet of the day. I wish SMILE Group was there when my kinesthetic learner was within this age group!

Challenge Island

The other class that we will offer is Challenge Island, an innovative educational activity that is loosely based on a popular reality TV show. The children will be asked to work in tribes as their are given challenges to solve and accomplish. In each challenge, the kids will be practicing skills from a wide variety of subjects – from Science to Art to Language – while having fun!

The activities also aim to promote cooperation, perseverance, creative thinking, and innovation in children ages four and above. The twelve sessions for this semester will cover Time Machine Island and Volcano Island.

In Time Machine Island, tribes will be asked to build a time machine that will bring them to historical destinations. Moving on to Volcano Island, the kids will take on explosive challenges at hot locations such as Lava Lake Crossing, Lava Lamp Light House, and Extreme Eruption Point. How exciting is that?!  Watch Challenge Island in action in this video.

Class details

Yogalphabets and Challenge Island will be held simultaneously every Friday at The Parenting Emporium in New Manila starting July 8, 2016. Classes will be from 10:00-11:30 (but we usually end at 12 noon).

Yogalphabets is P9000 for 12 sessions. Challenge Island is P6500 for 12 sessions.
